"Old dogs, like old shoes, are comfortable. They may be a little out of shape and a little worn around the edges, but they fit well!"

~Bonnie Wilcox

deHaan's Kodygirl  3/26/95-11/18/10 ~ Kody was an All American.... Malamute/GSD/Rott mix . She was 4.5 weeks old when we  adopted her from the local SPCA on 5/3/95.  In her younger years, she loved running and hiking in the woods with her dad and she has summitted on most of the high peaks in the Catskill Mountains.
Kody loved playing agility! She began competiting in NADAC agility in Sept. 1998 and has earned many agility titles and awards. Kody earned a NATCH (NADAC Agility Trial Champion )  in 2005 at the age of 10.  Kody  also earned the Elite Triple Superior & Novice Versatility awards and more than 1500 lifetime points before she retired from agility in the fall of 2007 at 12 1/2 years old.  What a great ride it was! Thanks *girl* for being my team mate!

As my first dog, Kody has lived up to the Gaelic meaning of her name, HELPFUL, by  helping to teach me about teamwork and sportsmanship in agility and about dogs in general.  She was my constant companion and the best traveling partner a person could ask for! She was my very best friend and my soul dog ~ She will be forever in my soul~
Kodygirl's Agility Titles & Awards:
NADAC: NATCH, EliteTriple Superior,  EAC-600, TG-O, HP-N, 1000 Lifetime Points, Novice Versatility

deHaan's Nika Blue Eyes ~ Nika is a Wolf-Grey Siberian Husky. She was rescued on 7/9/01 from a pretty scary area in our community. She had been tied out for the first 8-9 months of her life with no shelter and very little food. Her owners got evicted and left her behind. The landlord was going to take her to a shelter and we said we'd find a home for her. Who knew it would be with us! Kody took to her immediately so we knew this would be her forever home. Nika was probably beaten and not cared for at all.

Her name is Russian/Greek for VICTORY. I think she has been vicotrious in learning what it is to be able to trust, be loved and cared for.  At about 11 years old, she is one of the most fun-loving dogs a person could meet.

She  loves to go running and hiking in the woods with her dad.  She is his constant running partner and has helped him train for many Ironman triathlons! She also tries to help him in his open water swims..... Nika LOVES to swim!

Nika likes to play agility too. She is now semi-retired from agility and has accomplished a lot over the years considering her breed and background.   Nika has her own style of running agility ... I love her for her free spirit! Nika has recently begun competing in APDT Rally Obedience and really likes it. She is a very flashy obedience dog who has had great success in the ring in 2010!

Nika has taught me to "keep it real" in training and have FUN no matter what. She is my buddy who makes me laugh every day.

Nika's Titles:

deHaan's Gimme Shelter ~ Kiva the Diva ~ Kiva came to us on July 3rd, 2007.  She was ~6 weeks old when I found her on www.Petfinder.com . She was all of 5 lbs. and fit in the crook of my arm. Kody, Nika & I traveled to Massacheusetts to get her and make her part of our pack.

Kiva was dumped in a cemetary in Brooklyn, NY with her littermates at about 5 weeks old and was thankfully found and taken to a shelter.  Her name means PROTECTED in Hebrew and SHELTER in the Native American culture.  She has gained the nickname "Kiva the Diva" and that fits her so well.

Kiva is now 4 years old and has proven to be a natural at agility & obedience. She and I are enjoying the process working together as a team. Kiva earned her NADAC NATCH-S & Versatility NATCH-S in the summer of 2011 and in the fall of 2011 we competed in the NADAC Championships and the Extreme Games Challenge finals in Springfield, Il . I am so impressed by Kiva's  natural athleticism and work ethic for such a youngster!

Kiva also LOVES to play ball and chase the frisbee for unlimited time and then dive into her kiddie pool to cool off.  She's really become such an important part of our family and owns a special place in my heart. She has happily assumed the role of my  constant companion and very best friend. Kiva is my Heart Dog.
